- Includes long and short-term plans
- Requires learning objectives to be identified for classes, groups and individuals
- Enables monitoring, assessment and recording of pupils’ progress
v Knowledge and experience of developing a purposeful learning environment that enables high quality discussion, thinking and challenge
v Understanding of your responsibilities under the SEND Code of Practice; knowledge of how to safeguard children

v Experience of using ICT effectively both in curriculum planning and teaching
Planning and Expectations
Be able to:
v Plan Music lessons that are engaging and sufficiently challenging to ensure children’s enjoyment of Music learning and good behaviour and outcomes in Music
v Plan Music learning that builds on pupil’s previous knowledge and experience, and enables pupils to make links with other areas of the curriculum and develop lifelong learning skills
v Plan relevant high quality key questions to inspire enquiry and curiosity in children
v Plan Music learning that includes a range of diverse people and themes and resources that are fully representative of society
v Work closely as part of a team of colleagues, to undertake medium and short-term planning
v Provide advice and support to other teachers on how to plan and deliver effective Music lessons
v Make effective use of assessment information on pupils’ attainment and progress in planning future Music lessons
Teaching and Class Management
Through your teaching of Music, demonstrate:
v Organisational and time management skills to enable effective teaching of whole class, groups and
individual pupils, which ensures effective teaching and best use of available time
v Knowledge and experience of interactive teaching methods and collaborative group learning, which enable and encourage children to take responsibility for their own learning
v Experience of enabling pupils with different learning needs and of varying abilities to maximise their learning through provision of differentiated activities
v The regular use of assessment for learning including observation, questioning and discussion with children
v Awareness of equality issues, including maximizing opportunities to explore and promote equity, diversity and inclusion through teaching and learning
v High expectations of behaviour and the ability to ensure good behaviour and discipline using sound procedures in collaboration of pupils, staff and parents within a school community committed to inclusion
v An ability to foster each child’s self-image and esteem and establish relationships which are based on mutual respect and cooperative learning
v An ability to create a learning environment which develops high levels of resilience, confidence and independence in learners when they tackle challenging activities
v An ability to enable a learning environment where children have opportunities to direct their own learning and make choices
v High expectations of children’s achievement in Music and promoting Music beyond the classroom
Qualifications
v To have completed DfE recognised initial teacher training course leading to Qualified Teacher Status
In order to comply with regulations for employment in schools the successful applicant will be required to provide an Enhanced Disclosure by the Criminal Records Bureau of any criminal record and inclusion in the List 99 (people who should not be permitted to work in a school).

JOB DESCRIPTION – MUSIC TEACHER
General duties:
To be responsible for the education and well-being of designated classes/group of pupils in accordance with the requirements of the Conditions of Employment of School Teachers having due regard to the requirements of:
- The National Curriculum programmes of study and the school’s curriculum plans and schemes of work (Contexts for Learning)
- The school’s ethos, values and School Development Plan
- School policies
Specific Responsibilities:
- To work closely with a range of professionals – external agencies alongside teachers, teaching assistants, SLT and the wider staff - to ensure continuity and progression in children’s learning in Music across the whole school, in accordance with the Teaching and Learning Policy / Early Years Policy in the Foundation Stage
- To produce medium- and short-term plans in collaboration with other teachers, to ensure continuity of teaching across the school, and in accordance with the school’s policies
- To effectively use assessment (in line with school policy) to identify misconceptions, to track children’s understanding and to effectively plan for next steps in learning
- To create an inspiring and well managed learning environment where: children are motivated and actively engaged in learning; where lifelong learning skills are introduced, practised and mastered; and where behaviour is managed effectively (in line with policy)
- To lead the teaching of music through providing planning support for KS1 staff and through direct teaching in KS2
- To be aware of the well-being of others and share in the responsibility for managing our own well-being, and for supporting the well-being of other staff and children
- To manage the behaviour of all children in the school, working closely with teacher colleagues, teaching assistants and other support staff
- To commit to and promote the home-school partnership in order to ensure that all those involved in children’s learning and development work closely together within agreed policies
- Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, in particular: Health and Safety Policy, GDPR policy and Safeguarding and Child Protection policy
- To promote music across the school by offering all pupils opportunities to engage in high quality music experiences
- To keep up to date with current thinking with regard to music education and practice
- To provide pupils with the opportunity to create musical links within and beyond the school community
- To lead music activities including extra-curricular opportunities with groups of children, such as choir and instrumental groups (this will be within directed time)
- To assist in planning whole school events such as assemblies, celebrations and productions that contain a musical element
