Part Time Science Teacher job summary
Are you looking for a school where you can focus on what matters most—delivering high-quality teaching—in an environment with excellent classroom culture? Do you want to work with motivated, curious students who are ready to engage and excel? If so, welcome to Amery Hill School.
Proudly recognised as the Happiest School in Hampshire, Amery Hill is a thriving 11-16 inclusive secondary school in Alton, where staff well-being and academic high standards go hand-in-hand.
Why Teach Science at Amery Hill?
Focus on Teaching & Learning: Ofsted (July 2026) recently commended our pupils' behaviour as "superb." You will join a school where positive behaviour management is the standard, allowing you to spend your energy teaching rather than managing disruption.
Professional Growth & Opportunities: We invest heavily in our staff. You will have access to an extensive CPD programme, opportunities to lead diverse extracurricular activities, and the chance to participate in overseas trips.
Comprehensive ECT Support: Early Career Teachers benefit from a fully structured ECT programme, dedicated departmental mentorship, and a strong network of peers across subject areas.
A Supportive & Collaborative Culture: We prioritise a healthy work-life balance and strong staff camaraderie. From structured well-being sessions and our "Secret Pal" initiative to regular staff events, our community actively supports one another.
The Role: Science Teacher (KS3 & KS4)
Key Stage Teaching Scope: The role covers teaching Science across both Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4).
Department Profile: You will join a thriving, popular, and welcoming Science department that serves the town of Alton and surrounding Hampshire villages.
Desired Candidate Attributes: The department is looking for someone with adaptability, flexibility; and has the skills and attributes to make a strong impact on students and the team.
Inclusive Ethos: It is a fully inclusive 11-16 secondary school focused on nurturing every student's individual journey, self-understanding, and resilience alongside academic achievement.
We welcome applications from both experienced teachers (MPS/UPS) seeking a rewarding teaching environment and ambitious ECTs looking for an exceptional start to their careers.
You owe it to yourself to work in a place that you will love. We look forward to hearing from you.

Our Vision
Amery Hill School is a welcoming and supportive learning community where all students are encouraged to become independent, creative, active and resilient learners with the empathy to respond responsibly and morally to the challenges of this ever-changing world.
Delivering our vision, for every child, every day
We aim for academic excellence and achievement for all of our students. We inspire and develop a genuine love of learning through the dedication of our staff in creating an ambitious educational environment that is exciting and accessible to all. This is supported by a wide range of extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities for students to explore and deepen their own interests. When our students leave Amery Hill, they are excited about the opportunities for further learning, direct their own educational journey and embrace life’s lessons with resilience and creativity.
We treat our students as individuals. We work hard to identify and enhance each student’s strengths, focussing attention on personal development so that their time at Amery Hill is not just about a journey to academic success but also one of self-understanding. Our aim is that on leaving Amery Hill our students can think, learn and cope independently so that they have the confidence to seize life’s opportunities and make a real contribution to the communities where they live and work.
We create a culture that is happy, safe and supportive, to enable our students to be both confident in expressing their own individuality whilst also having the capacity to respect, foster and embrace new ideas and principles: to be willing to accept feelings, habits and beliefs that are different from their own.
