What skills and experience we're looking for

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and nurturing practitioner to:

  • Lead and deliver ELSA interventions (1:1 and small group)

  • Support pupils with SEMH, emotional regulation and behaviour needs

  • Develop and strengthen our nurture provision

  • Provide HLTA classroom cover when required

  • Promote inclusion, wellbeing and positive behaviour for learning

The successful candidate will work closely with the SENCO, Mental Health Lead and Senior Leadership Team to ensure high-quality pastoral support across the school.

Key Responsibilities

Pastoral & ELSA

  • Deliver targeted ELSA programmes within the nurture room

  • Support pupils experiencing emotional or behavioural barriers to learning

  • Provide structured emotional literacy and regulation sessions

  • Monitor, record and evaluate intervention impact

  • Support pupils during key transition points (arrival, break times, reintegration)

Behaviour & Inclusion

  • Model relational, restorative approaches

  • Promote positive behaviour strategies aligned with school policy

  • Work proactively to support emotional readiness for learning

HLTA & Classroom Cover

  • Provide short-term and planned classroom cover

  • Deliver pre-prepared lessons maintaining high expectations

  • Adapt learning to meet SEND and SEMH needs

  • Ensure calm, purposeful learning environments

  • Educated to GCSE Level C or above in English and Maths

  • Confident, enthusiastic and have a passion for learning

  • Able to demonstrate excellent English skills (clear written and spoken English) along with good reading, writing and numeracy skills

  • An excellent, enthusiastic and committed practitioner who believes in the value of continuing CPD

  • Someone who has high expectations of behaviour and achievement for all pupils

  • Creative and able to make a difference

  • Adaptable and aspirational

  • Committed to securing good outcomes for all pupils and have a belief that all can achieve well

  • Able to build good working relationships with staff, pupils and their parents/carers
