Pastoral Development Support Mentor job summary
At Milton School, we are seeking a Pastoral development mentorto join our caring and committed team. Our school supports pupils with a range of special educational needs, including communication and interaction difficulties, autism, cognitive needs, and social, emotional and mental health needs.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead our pastoral provision, supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing, self-regulation, and positive relationships across the school.
About the Role
As Pastoral Development Mentor, you will:
Develop and deliver interventions to support emotional regulation, social communication, and resilience.
Model and promote trauma-informed and relational approaches to behaviour.
Work closely with class teams, therapists, and families to provide joined-up pastoral care.
Play an active role in safeguarding and child protection, working alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to identify, record, and respond to welfare concerns.
Support pupils to access learning through positive wellbeing and regulation strategies.
Analyse behaviour and wellbeing data to inform proactive support.
Lead on relevant interventions
We are looking for someone who is:
Compassionate, patient, and emotionally resilient.
Experienced in supporting children and young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
Confident and knowledgeable in safeguarding practice, able to recognise and respond to concerns appropriately.
Skilled in building trusting relationships with pupils, families, and staff.
Knowledgeable in emotional regulation approaches
Able to model restorative practice and calm communication.
Organised, reflective, and passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
