Pastoral Manager job summary

At The Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form, we are an ambitious inclusive 11-19 mixed comprehensive school that places the journey of the child at the centre of everything we do. We have a clear aim for our students and staff: “Enjoy, Enrich, Achieve, Aspire”. As a school our ambition is to be “An outstanding school in the heart of the community.” These messages underpin everything we do.
We want to work with colleagues who put the students at the centre of everything we do, but also take the opportunities we can offer them to develop their careers and fulfil their own aspirations.

Notley High & Braintree Sixth Form is part of the Bridge Academy Trust: a collegiate and collaborative Trust, where, first and foremost, each school is a place of (high quality) learning, where young people ENJOY, ENRICH, ACHIEVE & ASPIRE. The core purpose is to provide high quality continuity of every child’s journey through education from 3 to 19, with a community and school-led school improvement approach and long-term sustainable strategy. Bridge Academy Trust is committed to its people strategy and prioritises staff’s development to ensure they too can enjoy, enrich, achieve and aspire.

About the role:

Are you passionate about supporting young people to thrive in school and beyond? Do you have the drive, resilience, and expertise to lead proactive pastoral care that makes a real difference?

Notley High School is seeking to appoint an outstanding Pastoral Manager to join our committed and caring pastoral team. This is a key role in our school, responsible for ensuring high standards of student wellbeing, attendance, behaviour, and engagement. You will work closely with our Raising Standards Leaders and other key staff to ensure all students feel safe, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Key aspects of the role include:

Acting as a highly visible and approachable presence around school, promoting high standards of behaviour and conduct

Building strong, supportive relationships with students and their families

Monitoring and improving attendance, including first-day calls and regular home visits

Delivering or coordinating targeted interventions to support students with emotional and behavioural needs (e.g. anger management, anxiety support)

Working closely with external agencies and leading on multi-agency meetings (e.g. Early Help, TAF)

Upholding safeguarding procedures and supporting vulnerable learners

We are looking for someone who:

Is experienced in pastoral or youth work, particularly in an educational setting

Has the emotional intelligence and professional confidence to work with vulnerable and challenging students

Can lead structured interventions around behaviour and mental wellbeing

Is resilient, calm under pressure, and able to manage difficult conversations

Shares our commitment to inclusion, high expectations, and student success

In return, we offer a supportive team, high-quality CPD (including safeguarding Level 3), and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people.

Bridge Academy Trust may close this advert early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.
