About Us
Pear Tree Community Junior School is a welcoming and inclusive school where children are supported to flourish academically and personally. We are proud to be part of Transform Trust and are guided by our three core values:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Pastoral Mentor and Sports Coach to join our team. This is a new and exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about promoting physical activity, supporting pupil wellbeing and helping every child to thrive.
The successful candidate will plan, organise, and deliver high-quality PE and sports activities as part of the school curriculum, creating engaging opportunities that inspire pupils to develop healthy, active lifestyles. They will play a key role in enriching sporting opportunities for all children, increasing participation in physical activity, and using sport as a positive tool to motivate and re-engage pupils who may be facing barriers to learning.
Alongside leading sports provision, the postholder will provide behaviour mentoring and targeted pastoral support, helping pupils develop the social, emotional, and behavioural skills needed to succeed both in school and beyond. Working closely with staff, families, and external agencies where appropriate, they will champion pupil wellbeing while supporting children to achieve their full potential physically, emotionally, and academically.
You will:
The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and young people, ideally within a school or educational setting and will be able to engage, motivate and inspire pupils from a wide range of backgrounds. They will have a strong understanding of child development, behaviour management, safeguarding and SEMH needs and be confident in supporting pupils through both physical activity and targeted interventions.
You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues. You will be organised, proactive and resilient, with the skills to de-escalate challenging situations, deliver effective mentoring support and contribute to a positive and inclusive school environment.
A recognised Level 2 Sports Coaching qualification, GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent), and a commitment to promoting pupil wellbeing, participation and achievement are essential. Experience of leading sports activities, organising events and encouraging children to develop active, healthy lifestyles would be highly desirable.
In return we offer:
• A welcoming community and a highly motivated, professional staff team that are driven
towards continuously raising standards
• Excellent professional development opportunities through an extensive range of network groups and other Transform Trust initiatives
