Pastoral Support Worker job summary

We are looking for a Pastoral Support Worker to help ensure every child at Reydon Primary School feels safe, supported and ready to learn. This is a pivotal role, working at the heart of the school community to remove barriers to learning through targeted wellbeing support, strong partnerships with families and close collaboration with colleagues. The role blends direct work with pupils, safeguarding responsibilities and attendance support, requiring someone who combines empathy with professional confidence, sound judgement and a deep commitment to improving outcomes for children, particularly those facing complex challenges.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted wellbeing support to pupils and families, addressing barriers to learning including mental health, behaviour and attendance

  • Develop and implement action plans and interventions, working closely with staff and external agencies

  • Support safeguarding processes, including acting as deputy DSL and contributing to child protection and early help referrals

  • Monitor and improve pupil attendance through tracking, family engagement and partnership with local services

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues to promote a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment
