PE Sports Assistant (PESA) job summary

Our school has an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about the power of physical education to transform young people’s lives, helping to build resilience, promote wellbeing, develop character and encourage a lifelong love of movement and healthy living.

About the role

The successful candidate will support the PE Faculty in delivering high-quality PE lessons, promoting student engagement and helping to run extracurricular clubs at lunchtime and after school. The role also includes preparing equipment, supporting small groups and interventions, helping with fixtures and competitions, and contributing to the wider life of the school.

This post may suit a sports coach, a recently qualified PE teacher looking to gain further school-based experience, or someone who works with young people in another sporting setting.

What we are looking for

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above

• Experience of working with young people in a voluntary or paid sports setting

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• A positive, enthusiastic attitude towards sport and student development

• The ability to motivate students of varying abilities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team

• A Level 3 qualification in Sport, Coaching, Fitness or Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is required for the qualified Grade F salary.

Salary/hours/grade

• Unqualified: Grade D point 3 – 6 - FTE £24,796 – £25,989 /Actual £16,535 - £17,330 per annum pro rata

• Qualified: Grade F point 6 – 12 - FTE £25,989 – £28,598/Actual salary per annum is £17,330 - £19,070 per annum pro rata

• Hours: 28.75 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with hours to be agreed with the successful candidate

• Contract: Part-time, fixed-term for 12 months (due to funding), term-time plus inset days

• Start date: September 2026
