What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding, passionate and inspiring teacher of PE, who will also be Head of Year, to join our team. This is a one year fixed term contract for maternity cover.
You will be working in a very cohesive and supportive department and pastoral team, committed to providing an outstanding education for all our pupils.
As Head of Year you will monitor and support the academic progress of students in a defined year group of the school and support their welfare and conduct, including promoting the highest levels of attendance and punctuality.
The Head of Year will also lead a team of tutors in implementing and maintaining a system of academic monitoring, as well as monitoring the behaviour of students in the year group. As Head of Year you will have a reduced teaching timetable.
The school possesses excellent facilities for the teaching of PE. In addition to the gym, Astroturf and the extensive playing field on and off site the school enjoys the use of the adjacent recreation centre. This is built on the school grounds and includes a sports hall, fitness suite and a swimming pool.
The PE Department teaches both mixed and single sex classes. In Key Stage 3 and 4 students experience a broad and balanced programme in line with the National Curriculum requirements. At Key Stage 4 students also have the option of following the GCSE Physical Education Programme.
The department has an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities with many of the traditional games running all year. Regular fixtures and competitions involve numerous school teams from Year 7 to Year 13.
The successful candidate will: -
- show a passion for physical education with an excellent subject knowledge and pedagogical understanding.
- be an excellent classroom practitioner, who is experienced in teaching PE at key Stages 3 and 4
- have success in achieving consistently good results in PE, at least, at key stage 3 and key stage 4, or as an ECT to establish this pedigree.
- be committed to providing pastoral support that leads to exceptional outcomes for students
- be able to inspire and motivate staff and students
