PE Teaching Assistant job summary

This role is term-time only, 38 weeks per year, 32.5 hour per week. 1 Year fixed term initially

Main purpose

To work collaboratively within the PE team, to support the delivery of PE lessons, school sport and physical activity opportunities so all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, may achieve success in line with the school vision, ethos and aims.

The role includes: supporting teachers and the PE team to deliver high quality PE and school sport. To support colleagues in the delivery of physical activity opportunities at break times. To raise uptake of physical activity within the school community through the delivery of interventions.

Supporting the pupils

Attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters including medical procedures following appropriate training.

Supervise and support pupils to ensure their safety and access to learning;

Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual pupil’s needs.

Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.

Encourage pupils to interact with others to promote high levels of physical activities. Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.

Supporting the School Staff

To support the PE team and teachers with the delivery of school PE lessons.

To deliver a range of physical activities alongside other TAs and junior leaders.

To be a positive role model, creating a fun environment in which pupils feel confident, motivated and encouraged to participate in sport and physical activity.

Alongside teaching and learning staff, take positive steps to identify and overcome barriers to participation amongst children, prioritising access and inclusion.

Supporting the school

To foster links between home and school

To maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the pupil’s needs, but have regard to the safeguarding procedures of the school

To carry out duties as directed by the PE team and Deputy Head Teacher.

Organisation of school sports equipment for use in lessons and during activities.

To agree to abide by Oak Green School’s Staff Code of Conduct, including professional behaviour, relationships and appearance.

To carry out duties in accordance with the Oak Green’s PE & Sport and other policies, including equal opportunities, child protection, health and safety at work.

To develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships with all staff, including the wider community and sporting organisations.

To attend appropriate professional development courses as identified through post-holders training needs analysis.

To continue to maintain contacts are made with outside sporting bodies to ensure signposting opportunities are made available to specific groups or individuals.

To Support the delivery of prepared and implement well-structured and progressive extra-curricular programmes ensuring a high quality, enjoyable experience centered on the needs of children.
