What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and talented Physical Education Teacher (1 fte) to join our school from September 2024.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a school that has an established and innovative PE curriculum which also encompasses swimming and outdoor education (in collaboration with Reach Outdoors).

We are looking for a dedicated teacher who will encourage and motivate pupils to develop a love for physical activity, promote a healthy lifestyle, and install the values of teamwork, belonging, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

The successful candidate will teach PE across the school from Reception to Year 6, support the development of children’s fundamental skills across the nursery and will work alongside an experienced Dance and Gymnastics teacher.

We are in partnership with the Dartmoor Schools Partnership and Paignton Academy to enhance our curriculum and to participate in competitive sports and competitions. We are excited to take our PE curriculum to the next level by building on our extended curriculum outside of the normal school day and developing competitive sport across all age groups for those children who wish to participate.

The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of physical education theory and practice, have excellent communication and people skills and have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils of all abilities.

The role is open to both experienced and early career teachers (ECT) and would suit a Secondary or Primary trained Physical Education teacher with QTS status.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, delivering, and assessing engaging PE lessons that cater to a diverse range of abilities and interests of our pupils.
  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive, innovative and engaging PE curriculum
  • Organising and supervising extracurricular sports activities, clubs and competitions.
  • Ensuring effective and appropriate use of the schools PE & Sports Premium allocation and maintaining accurate records to support reporting requirements.
  • Monitoring and supporting the physical, social, and emotional development of pupils.
  • Ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all pupils during physical activities.
  • Collaborating with colleagues, parents, and the wider school community to support student achievement

and well-being.

  • Maintaining accurate records of student progress and report on performance.
  • Participating in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in physical education.
