Place of Work: Vyners School

Start date: As soon as possible

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a full-time Premises Assistant to work as part of our on-site team. This is an important role to us, and plays a key role in ensuring that the school is a safe, secure and well-maintained place of work and education. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate and provide a range of DIY skills, including plumbing, carpentry, decorating and basic electrics. Working alongside the Premises Manager and another Premises Assistant, this is an ideal opportunity for a hardworking, experienced, confident and proactive person who is equally happy working within a team and independently. This role is a ‘hands-on’ one and will involve both manual handling and some working at height. There may be occasional need for some weekend working (payable as extra hours). Postholders may also be required to support premises colleagues at other schools within our multi academy trust. Previous experience of working in a school is desirable but not essential.

Vyners is a very popular and oversubscribed mixed eight form entry, 11-18 comprehensive school, situated in a pleasant residential area in North West London, bordering Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We have a track record of real success at all Key Stages. In 2025, 81% of students achieved grades 9-4 in both English and Maths at GCSE and we are consistently ranked in the top 10% of all schools nationally for progress measures and attainment. At A-Level 27% of all grades were A* - A and 57% A* - B. The school converted to academy status on 1 November 2011 and is part of the Vanguard Learning Trust which also includes one other secondary and three primary schools.

We are well known for high academic standards, good behaviour, and our strong community spirit including a strong house system with students leading their peers. “Pupils benefit from excellent relationships with each other and with staff. They are well cared for and have adults they trust and who they can talk to if they have problems” (Ofsted, 2025). Many students are involved in extracurricular sport, music and drama, performing at a high level including prestigious public events and performing in our own school productions.

Values and vision

The Vyners School values were developed by governors, students, parents and staff in 2013. They are: community, aspiration, respect and endeavour. Vyners School encourages students to be resilient, unafraid to take calculated risks and make mistakes. Its values, the school hopes, will help pupils to stretch themselves, because the most valuable learning often takes place outside their comfort zone.

The school seeks to blend a 21st-century education with more traditional behavioural and uniform standards. It aims to produce rounded and grounded young people who will make a positive contribution to the world. Vyners School specialises in mathematics and computing.

Ofsted report

“Students achieve well and their attainment is well above average and improving in nearly all subjects and for most groups. Teaching is good and improving rapidly. This is recognised by parents, carers and students."

“The best lessons are ambitious, helping students to work things out for themselves and achieve their very best. Behaviour and attitudes are exceptional. All students and parents and carers are clear that the school is a safe place to learn. Relationships are positive and students embrace their learning with enthusiasm.”
