Premises Manager job summary
About the Role
As Premises Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the school site and grounds. You will lead the premises team and oversee all aspects of facilities management, ensuring the estate is maintained to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the management and maintenance of the school estate
- Ensuring compliance with all health and safety, fire safety and statutory regulations
- Managing cleaning, security, maintenance and waste management services
- Overseeing planned preventative maintenance programmes and critical building systems
- Managing premises budgets, procurement and contractor performance
- Maintaining compliance records and supporting inspections and audits
- Driving sustainability initiatives and promoting environmentally responsible practices
- Supporting school events and ensuring facilities are prepared and operational
- Building strong relationships with staff, students, contractors and stakeholders
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a dedicated and practical individual who has:
- Experience in property, estates or facilities maintenance
- A strong understanding of maintaining safe, secure and well-presented environments
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
- The ability to lead and motivate a team effectively
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience undertaking a range of maintenance tasks, including areas such as painting, joinery, plumbing, grounds maintenance, heating and ventilation
- A proactive approach to health and safety and regulatory compliance
- The ability to work independently and respond effectively to operational challenges
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- A commitment to providing an excellent environment for learning and working
