What the school offers its staff
About us:
We are a multi-site organisation which includes our Primary @ The Bay provision, Vista Campus, Lighthouse Campus, Bay Campus and Bridge Campus all based within the city of Portsmouth. We also have an Outreach Support Team and The Horizon provision (which includes the Hospital tuition service at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth).
The Harbour School is an AP and SEMH school for students in Portsmouth and our students range from year 5 up to year 11. We are proud to be more than a school. We are a lifeline for young people navigating some of life’s most difficult challenges. Our students may be recovering from trauma, permanent exclusion, self-isolation, or coping with medical conditions that prevent them from attending mainstream schools. Every child has their story – and we are here to help them write a brighter chapter.
Why us?
- Because you want your career to mean something
- Because you’re ready to teach with your heart, not just your head
- Because you see behaviour as communication, not defiance
- Because you believe that every child matters, no matter their past
- Because here, you won’t just teach – you’ll heal, inspire, and empower
What we offer:
- You’ll be part of a dedicated and compassionate team making a real impact
- Ongoing professional development in a growing trust
- A collaborative and inclusive environment where your ideas matter
- Each day brings the opportunity to help a child feel seen, heard, and valued
- You’ll leave work knowing you’ve made a difference — not just in education, but in lives
This role is challenging, but if you have the heart, resilience, and commitment, it will be one of the most rewarding jobs you’ll ever do.
Further details about the role
Primary Teacher – The Bay Campus, The Harbour School
MPR-UPR plus SEN £2,679 per annum. Full time, Permanent.
Not your average classroom. Not your average job. But the difference you’ll make? Huge.
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people who face barriers to mainstream education? Do you have the resilience, empathy, and commitment to teach students with social, emotional, and mental health needs?
Are you looking for a role where every day is different, every challenge is real, and every success – no matter how small – is truly life-changing?
Some students don’t fit into the mainstream – and that’s okay. They need a different kind of school, and we need a different kind of person. Someone who sees beyond the behaviour, who understands that trust takes time, and who knows that sometimes, just getting through the door is a victory.
This is no ordinary teaching job. This is a chance to change the direction of a child’s life.
If you’re the kind of person who celebrates the small wins, stays calm in any situation, and believes in second (and third… and fourth) chances, we want to hear from you.
