What skills and experience we're looking for

At Ark Charter there are strong foundations on which to build, despite a disappointing RI judgement. As such, this is a good opportunity for a first time Principal who would benefit from the infrastructure and support of being part of a MAT with a considered approach to school improvement. Equally, we are keen to hear from experienced and successful Principals who are seeking a new challenge and the opportunity to make real impact at this critical time in the school’s journey.

What the school offers its staff

Ark Charter Academy is part of the Ark network of schools, one of the largest and most successful multi-academy trusts in the country. Ark is renowned for its approach to staff development, with high quality training provided at every level for both teaching and non-teaching staff. For Principals this includes extensive training, coaching qualifications and one-to-one coaching development.

Further details about the role

Ark Charter is a six-form entry Church of England secondary school in the heart of Portsmouth. It is located near and works closely with two Ark primary schools. The school grew from four to six form entry just recently and boasts excellent, modern facilities. Whilst the academy has had a dip in performance over the last twelve months, and a disappointing RI Ofsted, those closely involved with the school believe there are strong foundations on which to build and deliver strong outcomes.

Commitment to safeguarding

Ark is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in its academies.

Ark requires all employees to undertake an enhanced DBS check. You are required, before appointment, to disclose any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Non-disclosure may lead to termination of employment. However, disclosure of a criminal background will not necessarily debar you from employment - this will depend upon the nature of the offence(s) and when they occurred.
