Pupil Support Officer job summary

The King's (The Cathedral) School has an incredibly strong reputation in the area and is one of a very small number of state Schools that has retained close links to the Cathedral dating all the way back to 1541. The School is heavily oversubscribed, staff retention is very high, and staff will typically choose to send their own children to the school for their education. The School places a real emphasis on students achieving well academically alongside participating in a wide range of sporting, musical and leadership opportunities. In July 2024, the School was judged as Outstanding in every category and a copy of the report can be accessed here.

Our Pupil Support Officers (PSOs) play a crucial role in ensuring that our students and their families feel well supported during their time at the school. PSO’s provide a range of pastoral support for students. This includes implementing strategies to ensure students attend school regularly, provide a high level of care for our student’s wellbeing, and deal with behaviour incidents at unstructured times within the school day. This role will require colleagues to undertake Safeguarding training and fulfil the role of deputy safeguarding lead. Further details of the role can be accessed through the more detailed job description.

The appointed colleague will need to be resilient, able to manage the unpredictable day to day demands of the role whilst also ensuring that well considered and long-lasting strategies are implemented. Our PSOs bring a great deal of care, patience and organisation skills to the school. Above all, they are kind and have our students at the forefront of their minds.
