Do you feel like you ought to be working in an organisation that changes lives for the community it serves?
Do you want to work in a school where staff enrich the minds and enable the success of the young people they work with?
Do you want to work in a school that prides itself on making a difference so that one day, you can look back and know it was worth it?
At Sewell Park Academy, we strive to ‘enrich minds and enable success’ for the students that we serve. Our mission is to ensure that our students leave with the qualifications needed to succeed in their next stages of their lives, but also be healthy, safe and be able to develop strong relationships. We have built a culture where staff want to stay and students want to come. So much so that 100% of staff said that ‘our school has a culture of learning: students are ready, willing and able to learn’ and we have had a turnover rate for teaching staff of just 2% in the last three years. We are the third most over-subscribed secondary state comprehensive in Norfolk.
The Trustees and Governors of Sewell Park Academy are seeking to appoint a Raising Achievement/Resources Assistant to join our dedicated SEND team. This exciting role combines specialist support for a student with a visual impairment alongside wider Raising Achievement responsibilities across the school.
A key aspect of the role will be preparing accessible learning resources for a visually impaired student. You will work closely with teaching staff to adapt lesson materials using specialist technology and software, ensuring resources are ready for lessons and fully accessible. Full training will be provided, so previous experience of using visual impairment technology is not required.
Alongside this specialist responsibility, you will also work as part of our Raising Achievement Team, supporting students within lessons, delivering targeted interventions and helping vulnerable learners overcome barriers to learning.
The successful candidate will:Prepare, adapt and convert lesson resources into accessible formats for a student with a visual impairment.
Learn to use specialist visual impairment technology and software to produce accessible learning materials (full training provided).
Work with teaching staff to ensure resources are prepared ahead of lessons.
Provide classroom support across a range of subjects.
Deliver interventions and targeted support for students with SEND and other vulnerable learners.
Support students to develop confidence, independence and resilience.
Provide whole-school classroom cover when required, supervising students and ensuring a positive learning environment in the absence of teaching staff.
Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENDCo and external professionals to ensure students receive the support they need.
The successful candidate will be organised, proactive and flexible, with excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for supporting young people. They will be able to work independently when preparing specialist resources whilst also enjoying being part of a collaborative and supportive team.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills in visual impairment support whilst also gaining valuable experience within a thriving SEND and Raising Achievement department. Ongoing professional development will be provided throughout your employment, including specialist training from Qualified Teachers of Vision Impairment and other external professionals.
We want the right person to make parents say similar things to Josh’s mum when he left us:
“He has always been a quiet and sensitive soul but I have watched him navigate his way through high school, with your guidance and care, he has grown and developed into a kind, responsible, respectful young man.
Thank you to everyone who taught him or took the time to listen and help him.”
Or this parent of Skye who said this of their prospective sibling coming to the school:
“I cannot fault the school and I sincerely hope that my daughter makes Sewell Park her school of choice.”
