Membership of the Trust offers valuable opportunities for collaborative working and ongoing professional development. We are part of a strong network of primary and secondary schools within the local area.
This is an exciting opportunity to join Forge Valley School as a Reading Mentor, working under the direct guidance of senior leaders to support pupils’ reading development. The role is focused on building pupils’ confidence in reading and closing gaps in reading age, enabling all learners to access the full curriculum.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, resilient, and committed to improving outcomes for young people. You will be able to engage, motivate, and challenge pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4 to raise achievement. Delivering effective literacy programmes to close attainment gaps is a key priority for the school, and this role is central to achieving that aim.
You will have a clear understanding of strategies to support reading development, including adapting approaches to meet the varying needs of pupils. A willingness to undertake relevant training is essential, along with a commitment to the school’s vision of eradicating illiteracy.
The role will involve working closely with the SLT Lead for Whole School Literacy and Subject Leaders to monitor pupil progress, alongside the effective use of data to evaluate impact and inform intervention strategies.
You will be able to:
· Work effectively towards ambitious literacy targets and pupil progress goals
· Deliver targeted reading interventions, including small group and one-to-one support
· Build positive relationships with pupils, including those who lack confidence in reading
· Use assessment information to track progress and adapt support strategies
· Demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills
· Share and actively contribute to our vision of improving life chances for every child
In return, we offer:
· A vibrant and inclusive learning community
· Strong community engagement and support
· A well-resourced and stimulating environment
· Opportunities to collaborate across a successful Multi Academy Trust
· A supportive workplace where colleagues are valued and benefit from high-quality professional development
At Forge Valley School, we work together to create an inclusive environment where pupils develop confidence, resilience, and independence.
Forge Valley School is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
