Safeguarding DDSL Pastoral Support Assistant job summary

💼 The Role (AKA: Your Daily Heroics)

As our Safeguarding DDSL and Pastoral Support Assistant, you’ll be the steady heartbeat of student wellbeing. Think of yourself as part detective, part cheerleader, part human lighthouse.

You’ll:

  • Champion student safety — spotting concerns, supporting staff, and helping ensure every young person feels seen, heard, and protected.
  • Be a pastoral powerhouse — offering guidance, empathy, and the occasional emergency biscuit.
  • Work closely with our DSL — because safeguarding is a team sport.
  • Build trust with students — the kind that makes them say, “You actually get it.”
  • Keep records tidy — because safeguarding paperwork is basically origami with legal consequences.

🌈 Who You Are

You’re the sort of person who:

  • Has a natural gift for empathy
  • Can stay calm even when the photocopier cannot
  • Knows safeguarding isn’t just a policy — it’s a promise
  • Can talk to teenagers without making it weird
  • Has a sense of humour (essential for survival)
  • Drinks tea like it’s a personality trait

🎉 Why UCS?

Because we’re not just a school — we’re a community. A lively, supportive, slightly chaotic (in the best way) ecosystem where staff look out for each other, students surprise you daily, and no two days are ever the same.

You’ll get:

  • A team that actually likes each other
  • Leadership that values wellbeing
  • Students who will make you laugh, cry, and occasionally question reality
  • A role where your impact is real, visible, and deeply meaningful
  • A wellness day - an additional day of leave to support your wellbeing
  • See our benefits brochure for further details.

🚀 Ready to Make a Difference?

If you’re passionate about safeguarding, pastoral care, and being the person who helps students feel safe enough to thrive, then we’d love to meet you.
