Safeguarding Support Officer job summary
Reepham High School & College is an 11-18 comprehensive school, only half an hour away from Norwich city centre. It has over 800 pupils in the main school and 240 students in the Sixth Form College. The school serves a very wide catchment area of nearly 400 square kilometres and 85% of our young people travel by bus.
We seek a dedicated person to work with the Head of Safeguarding and DSL team to support staff to safeguard the school community and promote students’ welfare. The role will be based in the Safeguarding Hub and will require the supervision of some of the school’s vulnerable students. In this capacity the successful applicant will help provide targeted intervention and mentoring support for a case load of vulnerable students through the STS (Safeguarding Targeted Support) system. The successful applicant will be able to support in the management of the hub, the pupils who access it and the recording and organisation of safeguarding information.
Duties and responsibilities
Safeguarding
Assist the Head of Safeguarding and Safeguarding Officer to support students in their learning and encourage positive attitudes and behaviour in and around school.
Champion safeguarding and student welfare across the school, sharing best practice and ensuring that school policy is enacted in practice.
Encourage a culture of listening to children and taking account of their wishes and feelings in any measures the School may put in place to protect them.
Ensure the School’s Safeguarding & Child Protection policies are known, understood and used appropriately.
Support teachers, tutors and support staff working directly with identified students with additional safeguarding and welfare needs. This includes providing accurate, up to date information about students.
Work with the DSL to ensure that support is always available for staff in the school to discuss any safeguarding concerns.
Maintain accurate, detailed and up to date student Child Protection records via CPOMS. This includes record keeping during DSL meetings and prompting discussion about vulnerable children and families. Ensure that the outcomes of these meetings are appropriately communicated, that actions are carried out.
Support the DSL in ensuring parents, Governors and other appropriate members of the school community have access to appropriate safeguarding documentation.
Support the DSL to ensure cases of suspected abuse are referred to the appropriate body, supporting staff and students through this process as required.
Co-ordinate the work of colleagues and external agencies so that visiting professionals’ time is spent effectively and efficiently.
Hold a case load of vulnerable students from across the school, working closely with the Hub Team.
Run a range of interventions as part of the STS system to remove barriers to learning for targeted pupils.
Work proactively with the Hub team, at times visiting homes of vulnerable students to improve parental engagement with a view to improving student attendance.
Supporting in the reintegration of students who are non-attenders via the safeguarding hub.
Undertake other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of Safeguarding, Safeguarding officer or senior leaders.
