What skills and experience we're looking for

In return we are seeking someone with:

  • Excellent numeracy and communication skills
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
  • Experience of working in a school office, preferably undertaking finance tasks
  • Ability to construct a school budget and present this to governors
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes in the working day and deal with the unexpected
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • A love of working alongside children and contributing to their development

What the school offers its staff

  • We are looking to recruit a School Business Manager to work across two schools within the Mole Valley Infant Schools Federation; St Michael's CE (A) Infant School, based in Mickleham, Dorking, and Newdigate CE Infant School based in Newdigate. The Federation has a single Headteacher and Governing Body but operates separate budgets for each school. Going forward, the Governing Body are looking to combine both bursar roles into a single Business Manager position.

  • Initially the post is for 2 days a week from February 2025 at St Michael'.s (12 hours a week, 39 weeks term-time plus 1 week), increasing to 4 days a week from September 2025 to include Newdigate Infant School.

  • Prior experience in a school setting would be ideal, and an accounting or SBM qualification also preferred, although training would be provided for the right candidate.
  • The role includes responsibility for finance, premises management, HR, IT and business systems.
  • The SBM will report to the Headteacher and has line management responsibility for the office staff.
  • There will be opportunities for training/handover in January (St Michaels) and July (Newdigate) to be agreed on appointment

Flexible working opportunities

There may be some flexibility over which days of the week are worked and the opportunity for remote working on occasions to complete specific tasks eg budget planning, SFVS
