What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for a committed and community-minded individual to join Toynbee schools Governing Body.
The governing body works collectively to provide strategic leadership and accountability for the school. As a co‑opted governor, you will help ensure high standards of education, effective financial management, and the wellbeing of pupils and staff.
The governors' vision for the school is to be the secondary school of choice in the local community through the delivery of an educational experience which balances 'Personal Best' academic progress and achievement with excellent support and holistic development for all pupils.
The governing body is responsible for the conduct of its school and must promote high standards of educational achievement at the school. It is the school’s accountable body and as such:
- Monitors and evaluates the work of the school by reviewing the performance of the headteacher, the effectiveness of the policy framework, progress towards targets, and the effectiveness of the school improvement strategy.
- Signs off the self-evaluation process and responds to school improvement service and Ofsted reports as necessary. In addition, it holds the headteacher to account for the performance of the school and ensures that parents are involved, consulted and informed as appropriate, with information to the community being made available as required.
- provides a strategic view of the school by establishing a vision and setting the purpose and aims of the school within an agreed policy framework. It appoints and manages the headteacher, agreeing the school improvement strategy which includes setting statutory targets with supporting budgets and staffing structures.
To do this, governors need to gain knowledge of how their school operates through training, by attending meetings, and by getting to know their school community, for example through a small number of visits to the school during the school day.

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher to join our Mathematics team on a part or full time basis to start in September 2025. This role is suitable for both ECTs, who would benefit from a comprehensive range of support and guidance, and more experienced teachers alike. We are open to applicants who may be looking for part time work as well as applicants looking for a full-time position.
You will join a highly successful and well-resourced Maths Department where the focus in recent years has been on consistency of approaches, creating a productive and effective department where we have the belief that all children will achieve their potential. The department really does embody the school motto of “Personal Best” working together with pupils to encourage them to meet their individual goals. While we are very proud of these outcomes for our students in recent years, we remain driven and determined to improve even further. We are keen to employ a teacher who will share in this commitment whilst developing their own leadership.
