About the Role:
Outwood Academy Normanby is looking for a dedicated and empathetic Health and Wellbeing Officer to champion the holistic care of our school community.
In this pivotal role, you will be a frontline advocate for student welfare. You won't just be managing health, you’ll be directly contributing to transforming the lives and futures of young people within our community.
Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
1. Medical & First Aid Management
- Lead First Aid Provision:Act as the primary point of contact for medical assistance for both students and staff.
- Clinical Administration:Manage the storage and administration of medicines, maintain accurate medical databases, and ensure first aid supplies are fully stocked.
Healthcare Planning:Produce and manage Individual Healthcare Plans and support students with SEND.
2. Mental Health & Emotional Support
- Direct Intervention:Provide one-to-one drop-in sessions for identified students needing consistent emotional support.
- Crisis Management:Provide students with a calm and grounded presence during moments of acute emotional distress for students.
- Specialist Referrals:Facilitate and support onward referrals to external specialist services to ensure no child falls through the gaps.
- Strategic Support:Contribute to SEND support plans specifically where mental health concerns are a barrier to learning.
Safe Spaces:Lead the development and maintenance of "Safe Spaces" within the academy to provide students with a sanctuary for regulation.
3. Cultivating a Positive Health Culture
- Community Engagement:Plan and lead health events, including drop-in sessions for parents and carers to strengthen the school-home link.
- Advocacy & Education:Promote national and contextual health initiatives (e.g., substance abuse awareness, obesity prevention) through assemblies, Personal Development (PD) sessions, and academy events.
Student Voice:Launch and lead a "Healthy Schools" student group, ensuring that pupils have a direct say in the health and wellbeing culture of their academy.
About You
We are looking for an individual who recognises that in our specific context, health and wellbeing are the fundamental prerequisites for learning. You will be a bridge between our school, our families, and the wider community, ensuring that no student falls through the cracks due to health or emotional barriers.
- Qualifications:You must be a qualified First Aider or be willing to undergo immediate training.
- Experience:Experience working within a school environment is highly desirable.
- Attributes:You are empathetic, resilient, and possess the ability to remain calm under pressure while managing medical or emotional crises. Strong communication skills are essential.
