School Improvement Adviser job summary

Are you an outstanding primary school leader who has a proven track record of improving outcomes for children and developing the practice of others?

Are you ready to use your experience beyond your own school to make a difference across a wider family of schools?

We are looking for an exceptional School Improvement Adviser to join our team and work alongside primary schools to secure sustained improvement, develop leadership capacity and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.

We are looking for someone who:

Has a proven and demonstrable record of school improvement in a primary setting.

Has successfully supported improvement beyond their own school, with clear evidence of the impact this has had on pupils, staff and school performance.

Has a strong interest in mathematics, with a secure understanding of effective maths teaching, curriculum and assessment.

Is an excellent practitioner who can translate evidence and expertise into practical support that makes a difference in classrooms.

Is confident working alongside headteachers and senior leaders, providing both challenge and support and holding leaders to account for agreed improvement priorities.

Builds strong, trusting relationships with staff while being prepared to have the difficult conversations when they are needed.

Is a committed team player, able to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a shared approach to school improvement.

Has the credibility, confidence and interpersonal skills to work effectively with leaders at all levels.

Is reflective, curious and committed to continuous improvement - of themselves, others and the schools they support.

The role:

As a School Improvement Adviser, you will work across our primary schools, providing high-quality challenge, support and professional expertise.

You will:

Work with headteachers and senior leaders to identify priorities and secure sustainable improvement.

Provide focused support to schools where improvement is needed, while also helping strong schools to continue to develop.

Use data, evidence and first-hand knowledge of schools to identify priorities and evaluate impact.

Support the development of teaching and leadership, with a particular contribution to mathematics.

Work alongside school leaders and staff in classrooms, providing practical coaching, modelling and professional development.

Challenge leaders appropriately and hold them to account for the impact of their actions.

Share effective practice across schools and help build a strong culture of collaboration.

Contribute to trust-wide school improvement priorities, training and professional learning.

Ensure that improvement activity results in measurable and sustainable improvements for children.

What matters to us:

We are looking for someone who combines high expectations with genuine warmth.

Someone who can walk into a school, quickly understand its context, build credibility with its people and then work alongside them to make things better.

Someone who is confident enough to challenge a headteacher, but humble enough to listen.

Someone who can support a teacher in a classroom, work strategically with a leadership team and contribute positively to a wider school improvement team.

Most importantly, we want someone who is passionate about improving the life chances of children and who wants to share their expertise to make a difference across a wider group of schools.

If you have the experience, credibility and ambition to make a significant contribution to school improvement across our primary schools, we would love to hear from you.

We encourage early applications and reserve the right to close the vacancy early if a suitable candidate is found.
