Job Title: School Meals Supervisory Assistant

We are looking for a School Meals Supervisory Assistant at Ilminster Avenue E-ACT Academy to supervise, guide and assist the children during the duration of the lunchtime period in both dining and play areas, so as to ensure the safety, general welfare and proper conduct of pupils and ensure that lunchtime is a positive and enjoyable experience. 

Our well established team of lunchtime supervisors play a key role in ensuring that our children have happy, safe lunchtimes. We need a candidate to join us in supporting the children to have fun whilst also promoting good behaviour. We have a fixed term contract available and we require the successful candidate to work 6.25 hours per week, commencing employment as soon as possible once onboarding processes have been completed.

The role involves some light physical duties such as setting up tables and tidying up after the lunch service which are organised on a rota basis, helping children with their eating and encouraging good manners. The rest of the time is spent in the playground, engaging children in safe play which could involve some one to one support. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a calm, caring approach and an interest in working with children. Good time keeping and the energy needed to work well as part of a team are vital. Key responsibilities

  • Supervising pupils immediately before, during and after the midday meal, including children who bring sandwiches
  • Supervising handwashing and toileting by pupils at the Headteacher’s discretion
  • Supervising pupils entering and exiting the dining area, including during any journey or walk to the dining room
  • Supervising pupils in the playground under direction

Pay range

Salary: Actual Salary £3,237.67 (FTE £22,366)

Hours: 6.25 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Contract: Fixed Term, Term Time only

Start Date: As soon as recruitment processes are complete

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4-9 including Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Current First Aid qualification (or willing to work towards)
  • Awareness of child protection/safeguarding with up to date training (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Food Hygiene Safety certificate
