Joseph Norton Academy in Huddersfield is a special academy educating children and young people with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties across Kirklees. Joseph Norton Academy is the same as any other school in that we have high expectations of our pupils; build a secure and happy atmosphere in which pupils can learn effectively; offer a broad range of subjects and qualifications, including GCSEs. However, we are different to other schools in that we organise our pupils into nurture groups; structure our day and our curriculum to support pupils with SEMH difficulties and employ specialist staff to support the special educational needs of our pupils. THE ROLE

We are looking to appoint a proactive and dedicated School Driver to manage our in-school transportation services. This vital role ensures our pupils and staff travel safely and punctually to and from school, educational provisions, and other appointments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating school vehicles safely and efficiently, according to a daily schedule and for ad-hoc trips.

  • Overseeing the daily maintenance, safety checks, and road-worthiness of the school's minibus fleet.

  • Building positive relationships with pupils and parents, acting as a reliable and trusted point of contact.

  • Providing hands-on support to staff when not driving, either by assisting in the classroom or accompanying groups on off-site trips and activities.

  • Responding calmly and effectively to any issues, with a focus on pupil welfare and safety at all times.

THE CANDIDATE

  • Full, clean driving licence.

  • MIDAS minibus training (or willingness to undertake).

  • Experience of working with pupils with Special Educational Needs.

  • Highway and school bus regulations.

  • Ability to operate school vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.

  • Reliable, flexible for needs of the role

  • Willing to train and offer emergency first aid.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, highly organised, and committed to becoming an integral part of our school's team.
