Science and Art Technician job summary
JOB DESCRIPTION
Your primary responsibility would be to provide technician services to the Science, Art and DT departments on a day-to-day basis. This includes:
Preparing, setting out and clearing away apparatus, equipment and chemicals
Assembling, making and repairing equipment
Preparing experiments and demonstrations, including dissections
Maintaining a safe and clean workspace and apparatus
Servicing the equipment and other practical areas in the departments, maintaining class sets of equipment
Stock keeping and advising staff of impending shortfalls.
Helping and advising staff and students with their equipment needs
Checking inventories and maintaining records
Attending appropriate training courses
To assist in conducting risk assessments and ensuring safe working practices.
To assist in the management of the Health and Safety within the subject areas
To liaise with staff regarding resources as an ongoing process throughout the year.
Using software packages, such as MS Excel, to input and process departmental data
Supporting teaching staff with practical activities in class
Helping with other aspects of classes, e.g. talks and demonstrations
Any other duty as required by the Principal
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Enjoy working with children
An interest in and enthusiasm for supporting sciences, art and DT
Effective use of ICT and other specialist equipment and resources.
Must be a team player, with good communication skills
Should have the ability to plan ahead, anticipate problems and be well organised
Enjoy working in an environment of change with a degree of flexibility and good humour
Experience of working in a school environment is an advantage, but not necessary
Subject knowledge and knowledge of the relevant policies, codes of practice and legislation would be an advantage
Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation as it relates to the work of a school is an advantage
Knowledge of safe working practices in relation to the handling and usage of hazardous equipment, chemicals and tools is an advantage
