The Role
Fernhill School is seeking to appoint an innovative, dynamic and highly motivated Science teacher. You will be joining a cohesive, hardworking and supportive team of teachers. The successful candidate will be an excellent practitioner and a strong team player with a keen interest in developing pedagogical practices.
All three disciplines of Science are taught in KS3. At KS4 students study Combined Science for GCSE, with Triple Science being reintroduced in 2023. This is an exciting time in the development of the science curriculum that runs as a progressive curriculum from Year 7 to Year 11.
Due to the development of science, there is the possibility of an additional responsibility with remuneration for a suitably qualified candidate as Assistant Head of Science.
The School
We are proud of our reputation as a small, friendly school, built on strong, traditional values, where exceptional pastoral care, the acceptance of others and the celebration of diversity and excellent academic achievement for all are the cornerstones of our success. We have a committed, loyal and talented team of leaders, teachers and support staff. Fernhill is a vibrant school that supports the development of the whole child and celebrates success in the widest sense.
The Science Department
The Science department is a strong and improving department; teachers and leaders have worked tirelessly to drive up standards of achievement and attainment. The department comprises a Head of Department, Assistant Head of Department, and two main scale teachers. They are a cohesive team and have a strong command of their subject. Science is enjoyed by students, as are the STEM days working with companies such as McLaren.
The department is housed in five well equipped laboratories. All rooms are equipped with Smart interactive white boards and all staff have a laptop or iPad. The department is supported by two highly skilled Science Technicians who provide all practical equipment for the teachers.
The Candidate
We are seeking a candidate who will be ambitious for our students. A passion for identifying and developing student potential is key: shown through aspiration and excellence for all, and a belief that a good school can and does make a significant difference to students' life chances and achievement, including the wider skills needed in life.
You will:
* have a passion for science which is evident in your teaching
* demonstrate the ability to consistently deliver inspirational learning experiences for students
* have an understanding of how to promote effective and inclusive teaching and learning
* be able to evidence success in raising student achievement across a broad range of abilities through successful assessment, monitoring and evaluation of student progress, and the range of strategies that could be used to address underachievement
* possess good communication skills with students, colleagues and parents
* demonstrate a strong desire to undertake Continuing Professional Development to inform teaching
We would welcome an application from you if you feel that you are a dynamic and passionate teacher of science.
