What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking an inspirational and enthusiastic Teacher of Science, specialising in Biology, who has the expertise to teach our most able students at CSIA’s unique Nexus campus.. The post will include teaching science at KS3-4, and Biology to KS5 attendingCornwall school of Maths and Science(CSMS). You must be committed to delivering an exceptional science education for our young people. Innovation, dedication, and the ability to teach scientific concepts with clarity and precision are qualities we look for, and you will be able to enthuse and motivate our students with your classroom presence and passion for science. Our science department is on a journey to becoming extraordinary, and we welcome applications from colleagues looking to thrive in our supportive and forward-thinking team.

The Science Faculty is incredibly well resourced, with modern, spacious science labs and a skilled technician team to support the highest standards of practical work. We teach a bespoke curriculum in KS3 and offer Combined and Separate science at KS4. In our VI Form we currently offer A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Psychology, along with BTEC Human Biology and BTEC Psychology, which are all very popular, although we are able to retain small VI Form class sizes.

Consequently, the uptake in GCSE Separate Sciences and A level subjects is significant and continues to grow.

In 2016, CSIA opened NEXUS, its Centre of Excellence for STEM and Liberal Arts (NLA) for 11-16 learners which is situated on its own unique campus. At Post 16, students from all over the county can study at Cornwall School of Mathematics and Science (CSMS), which is part of our VI Form provision. The aim is to develop young learners who are able to pick and choose from the best courses at the very best universities worldwide; young people who have a wealth of research experience from working with some of the best academics in their field of interest.

Science is a high achieving and dynamic faculty. At A level, student progress is in the top 10% of the country and CSMS students achieve over 85% A* - A. The VI Form Academy offers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Human Biology and Psychology and 25% of our intake at Post 16 is from schools outside of the catchment area.

Our school has developed exceptional International Science and Mathematics links with top schools in Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China and South Korea. Recent collaboration has involved joint research projects, International Science and Mathematics fairs and competitions, as well as many significant student/staff visits and exchanges. The successful appointees will be encouraged to participate in this amazing and unique programme.
