What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a passionate Science Teacher who:

  • Qualifications: To be considered for this role, candidates must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have successfully completed their Induction year. These qualifications ensure they have met the professional standards required for teaching and are equipped to deliver high-quality education.
  • Experience: Applicants must have experience demonstrating their suitability to work with children and young people, along with a strong knowledge of recent developments in learning and teaching. A thorough understanding of the National Curriculum and effective teaching strategies is essential. While experience teaching across the full secondary age and ability range up to A-Level is desirable, all candidates must be able to apply assessment for learning principles and differentiate instruction effectively.
  • Skills: Successful candidates will possess excellent classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and the wider school community. Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in using ICT for both teaching and administrative purposes, and a commitment to high standards and whole-school policies are essential. A positive attitude, dedication to professional development, and a commitment to equality and diversity are also key attributes.
  • Demonstrates a passion for creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all members of our school community.

Your Role in Building Brighter Futures

As a Science Teacher you will be responsible to:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons in line with the school curriculum, ensuring students' abilities and aptitudes are developed.
  • Set, mark, and assess students’ work, recording and reporting their progress and attainment.
  • Support students’ overall well-being, offering guidance on education, social matters, and career choices.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and external bodies, attending relevant meetings.
  • Participate in teacher appraisals, training, and professional development, including induction for new teachers.
  • Maintain discipline and ensure student health and safety on school premises and during school activities.
  • Assist in developing teaching materials, methods, and assessments in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Supervise and cover for absent teachers within the school’s cover policy.
  • Prepare students for external examinations, assessing and reporting on their performance.
  • Contribute to staff recruitment, mentoring, and the professional development of colleagues.
  • Undertake administrative duties linked to teaching, pastoral care, and school organisation. Ensure reasonable management time for leadership duties and guaranteed planning and preparation time (PPA).
