The Job:

Coal Clough Academy wishes to appoint a hardworking, enthusiastic and committed Science Teacher to delivering AQA Combined Science and Entry Level qualifications to students at KS4 and all sciences at KS3.  If you are experienced, enthusiastic, open to new ideas and have a flexible ‘can do’ approach, we would welcome an application from you.


What does this job do?

  • To ensure a high-quality learning experience for students which meets internal and external quality standards. 
  • To use creative approaches within curriculum development and design.  
  • To develop learning programmes within your specialist area. 
  • To liaise with Senior managers and others about pupils. 
  • To maintain an up to date knowledge of key curriculum areas linked to role. 
  • To plan the Science curriculum across key stages to ensure a well sequenced, knowledge rich curriculum that carefully engineers success. 


What are the job requirements?

  • Qualified Teacher Status 
  • Responsible for attainment and progress in Science for all students, in line with agreed targets. 
  • Supporting, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of others so that they teach lessons that are not judged less than typically good. 
  • Helping to create and manage a caring, supportive, purposeful and stimulating environment which is conducive to children’s learning. 
  • Planning and preparing lessons in order to deliver the National Curriculum, and other accredited areas, ensuring effective breadth and balance. 
  • Identifying clear teaching objectives and learning outcomes, with appropriate challenges and high expectations. 
  • Teaching lessons that are judged to be at least typically good. 
  • Helping to maintain good order and discipline among the students, safeguarding their health and safety. 
  • Organising and managing groups or individual students, ensuring differentiation of learning needs, reflecting all abilities. 
  • Planning opportunities to develop the social, moral, emotional and cultural aspects of students’ learning. 


About Coal Clough Academy:

Coal Clough Academy is an 11 - 16 Alternative Provision for young people, many of whom have found it difficult to be successful in a mainstream school.


We are making exciting and positive changes to our school and are very proud of the provision we offer. At Key Stage 3, the focus is on supporting young people to return to a mainstream school. At Key Stage 4, we focus on providing the opportunity for students to gain 5 GCSEs to ensure a successful transition to college, training or employment.


Pupils are taught in small groups, where they study the core curriculum and can receive the extra support they require. Students are then able to make good progress as staff can ensure that learning is tailored to individual student needs. In addition to the core curriculum, we provide rich and varied curriculum opportunities ranging from vocational courses, academic programmes and programmes that support pupils' personal and social development. Many of the young people who attend Coal Clough Academy arrive here at a difficult period in their lives. We aim to ensure that we give them the necessary support to improve their confidence, self-esteem and enable them to become successful learners in school and prepared for their future working lives.
