What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious and forward-thinking Teacher of Science, with all specialisms welcome, to join our successful and supportive department. Above all, we are looking for an excellent classroom teacher who is passionate about science, brings professional energy to their work and is ambitious about their own development.
You will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, contributing to a carefully sequenced curriculum that builds secure knowledge over time and develops students’ curiosity, scientific thinking and confidence in applying their understanding. You will join an experienced and collaborative team with high expectations for students and a shared commitment to excellent science teaching.
We are particularly interested in teachers who are keen to keep improving and want to grow their experience and their career. You might be early in your career and looking for a school in which you can develop rapidly, or an experienced teacher ready for your next professional challenge. Either way, we are looking for someone with the potential and ambition, over time, to become increasingly influential within the department and wider school. For the right candidate, who can bring particular expertise and make a significant contribution to the department, an enhancement may be available.
The department places a strong emphasis on clear explanations, purposeful practical work and helping students develop the confidence to tackle increasingly complex scientific ideas. Shared curriculum materials and clear schemes of learning support consistency, collaboration and manageable workload, while giving teachers the professional space to develop and refine their practice.
At Church Stretton School, we want talented teachers to grow with us. You will be supported to develop your practice, broaden your experience and explore opportunities to contribute to the department and wider school as your career develops. Across the school and wider Trust, we are committed to developing our staff and creating opportunities for future leadership at all levels.
If you are a great Science teacher who wants to keep getting better, broaden your experience and build your career in a school where your contribution will be valued, we would love to hear from you.
What the school offers its staff
You will join a supportive team within a well-resourced department, with access to shared curriculum materials, clear schemes of learning and a strong culture of professional support.
As a school and as part of TrustEd Schools, we place a strong emphasis on professional development and career progression, supporting colleagues to grow as practitioners and leaders at every stage. Early Career Teachers and experienced teachers are equally welcome to apply.
Set within the beautiful South Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Church Stretton School is far more accessible than many people expect. We are just nine miles from Shrewsbury and benefit from a direct rail link, regular bus services and a strong road network, making commuting straightforward from across the region
