About Tollbar Academy

Tollbar Academy is an 11-19 mixed comprehensive of over 2000 students which incorporates our Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College. The Academy lies on the border of North East Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire, being situated one mile south of Grimsby. The students traditionally come from surrounding Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire villages which are mainly dormitory villages for Grimsby and the South Bank industrial estates. The vast majority of the housing in the area is privately owned. The original School was opened in 1937 for 300 pupils, other buildings were erected in the 1970s and there have been a number of recent additions of specialist accommodation, particularly in the 6th Form. Tollbar became an Academy on 1 September 2010 and remains an 'outstanding' provider of education being confirmed as outstanding in all four categories by Ofsted in November 2013.
