We are seeking a dedicated and organised Science Technician to join our team at Dyke House Academy. This is an incredible opportunity to play a vital, hands-on role in supporting teaching and learning on a day-to-day basis within our vibrant science department.
The Role
As a Science Technician, you will work under the direction of the Senior Science Technician or Head of Department to ensure our students receive an exceptional practical education. This role involves working closely with children and is vital to the daily success of our science classrooms.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Lesson Preparation & Support:Organising apparatus, preparing resources, and constructing/checking specialist equipment prior to lessons. You will also assist teaching staff with practical demonstrations and provide lesson support or cover where required.
- Departmental Planning:Helping to plan experiments and stepping in to assist with the duties of absent colleagues to ensure learning resources are delivered seamlessly.
- Health & Safety Leadership:Taking an active role in maintaining health and safety procedures. This includes conducting daily visual checks on gas, electricity, and water, performing portable appliance testing (PAT), managing risk assessments, and ensuring the safe storage and monitoring of hazardous substances and apparatus.
- Resource Management:Cleaning and clearing apparatus after lessons, maintaining accurate inventories, auditing stock, placing orders for resources/stationery, and carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and safety-conscious.
Requirements & Expectations:
- A strong commitment to child safeguarding and protection, with a willingness to strictly adhere to academy policies and procedures.
- Strong organizational skills to manage stock, maintain equipment, and re-organize storage on a regular basis.
- A collaborative spirit, ready to participate in wider trust meetings, working groups, and departmental briefings.
- Strict compliance with GDPR and data protection regulations to maintain confidentiality.
- An enhanced DBS check is a requirement for this role.
