Science Technician job summary
We are recruiting for a Science Technician at Bobby Moore Academy, based in London.
About the role
We are seeking to appoint an experienced Science Technician to join a busy Science Faculty. This role will report directly to the Director Of Science. This is a key leadership role within the faculty and involves the day-to-day running of the practical and technical support areas. Previous experience in a similar role in a school or scientific working environment is essential.
You will prepare equipment, materials and resources for science lessons across KS3 and KS4, under the direction of the Director of Science. You will assist in the preparation of chemical solutions, biological samples and other practical materials safely and accurately. You will support A-Level Practicals where required. You will follow CLEAPSS and COSHH guidance.
You will maintain a tidy and organised prep room and science classrooms, clean equipment before and after use, store hazardous materials safely and report any issues or faults to the Director of Science.
You will support the Department with general administration tasks, answer phone calls and pass on messages. You will support with Open Days, preparing displays and signage.
You will contribute to the effective running of lessons that lead to high scholar engagement and achievement. Ensure that scholars have well prepared, safe and effective practical resources.
This role will be a permanent contract of 37 hours a week, term time (39 weeks including 5 INSET days)

Who we are looking for
Qualifications and Professional
- A good standard of education, including literacy and numeracy
- GCSEs or equivalent in Sciences and Maths
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Working knowledge of health and safety, including COSHH and carrying out risk assessments.
- Knowledge and experience of practical science up to Key stage 4 and at least one specific course to A level (preferably chemistry)
- Awareness of standard procedures e.g. titrations and making up standard solutions
- Good communication skills
- Well organised and capable of organising equipment etc.
- Ability to relate well to a wide range of people within the Academy’s community
- Cheerful disposition with a good sense of humour
- Ability to prioritise jobs
- Ability to work cooperatively within a small team
Attitude and Motivation
- Well motivated, enthusiastic and prepared to work hard
- Honest
- Good organisation and time management skills
- Ability to relate well to a wide range of people within the Academy’s community
- Cheerful disposition with a good sense of humour
- Ability to prioritise jobs
- Ability to work cooperatively within a small team and the wider science team
Experience
- Previous experience of secondary school science technician role
- Experience of working with risk assessments and following national guidelines
