Science Technician job summary

“Pupils and staff enjoy belonging to a vibrant school community where caring, respectful relationships are the norm” - Ofsted (January 2024)

We are seeking an enthusiastic, organised and proactive Science Technician to join King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy and play an important role in supporting the delivery of high-quality science education across the academy.

Working closely with colleagues within the Science department, you will provide essential technical and practical support to ensure that science lessons are engaging, well-resourced and delivered safely. You will be responsible for preparing, maintaining and organising laboratory equipment, chemicals and resources, supporting practical demonstrations and experiments, and ensuring that science facilities are maintained to a high standard.

You will also play an important role in promoting a safe and stimulating learning environment, supporting the implementation of relevant health and safety procedures and helping to ensure that pupils have access to exciting and meaningful practical learning experiences.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about science and enjoys working in a busy and rewarding educational environment. The role would suit an individual with strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and a commitment to supporting young people in developing their scientific knowledge, curiosity and confidence.

We are looking for someone who reflects our academy values in the way they work every day:

Bold - You will be confident in using your scientific knowledge and practical skills to support engaging experiments, solve problems and contribute ideas that enhance science teaching and learning.

Ambitious - You will take pride in maintaining high standards across our laboratories, ensuring that pupils and staff have access to the resources and support they need to achieve their very best.

Collaborative - You will work closely with Science teachers and colleagues across the academy, communicating effectively and contributing positively to the smooth running of the department.

Kind - You will demonstrate patience, understanding and a supportive approach, helping to create a safe, welcoming and positive learning environment for pupils and colleagues alike.

Most importantly, you will be joining a supportive community of Senior Leadership, Teaching and Support staff where “staff feel valued and appreciate how their workload and wellbeing are considered by leaders at all levels”, as recognised by Ofsted.

King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy is a dynamic and forward-thinking school where pupils know that staff have high expectations of them and want them to succeed. We are proud of the journey our academy continues to make and would welcome applications from individuals who share our commitment to providing an inclusive, ambitious education for every pupil.
