This is a fantastic opportunity for a Science Technician to be an integral part of our Science Department. You will coordinate the use of practical resources and facilities and provide assistance and advice in meeting the practical needs of the science curriculum, including liaising with teaching staff and support staff outside of the department
Main Responsibilities:
- Maintaining Science classrooms and the Prep room to ensure a clean, safe and orderly environment.
- To co-ordinate the day-to-day organisation and development of resources across biology, chemistry and physics.
- To contribute to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources and/or long-term projects.
- To ensure the availability of suitable materials and equipment, compiling orders and liaising or negotiating with suppliers and finance departments. This will include sourcing, costing and suggesting economic alternatives to maintain stock levels.
- Keeping accurate up-to-date stock records.
- To ensure that both routine and non-routine checking, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing of equipment are carried out to the required standard.
- Servicing, testing, routine maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment
- Preparing equipment of laboratory classes in accordance with given instructions, CLEAPSS and AQA practical guidance.
- Provide advice and guidance to staff and students on basic technical issues.
- Checking materials and equipment before and after use by a class for quantity and damage.
- Cleaning of glassware and other equipment.
- Support staff and students in the classroom environment to assist in the learning process where appropriate.
You will Need:
- At least five GCSE’s or equivalent which must include at least a C/4 grade in Maths and English.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety.
- Behaviour management skills.
- Be able to communicate clearly, both written and orally and able to undertake clerical and administrative tasks and maintain accurate records.
- Be able to work independently, use own initiative and also work constructively as part of a team.
- Be dependable, able to follow instructions and respond to management directions.
