Second in Charge - MFL job summary
At St Augustine Academy, we are committed to developing curious minds and fostering a love for learning. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Second in Charge of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) to support the leadership of our dedicated MFL team. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate language specialist who is eager to contribute to the strategic development of the department, champion high-quality teaching and learning, and support the Head of MFL in delivering an ambitious and inclusive vision for language education across the academy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of MFL in providing strategic direction and leadership for the department, contributing to continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
- Teach both French and Spanish up to and including GCSE level, delivering engaging and high-quality lessons.
- Assist in curriculum planning and the development of schemes of work that promote progression and meet the needs of all learners.
- Use a range of effective teaching strategies to enhance language acquisition and develop students’ cultural understanding.
- Monitor, assess, and track student progress, using data to inform planning and intervention strategies.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that supports student engagement and achievement.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the academy to contribute to whole-school initiatives and help raise the profile of languages.

DBS Checks
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Amendment Order 1986 and, as such, it will be necessary for a Submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
