Second in Charge of Physical Education job summary
The opportunity:
As Second in Charge of Physical Education at WHSG, you will be part of a successful and collaborative team that is passionate about sport and physical activity and committed to securing the very best outcomes for students. You will work closely with the Head of Department to help shape and develop the curriculum across all key stages, support colleagues and contribute to the continued success of the department.
You will have the opportunity to play a key role in developing teaching and learning within the department, supporting an ambitious and engaging curriculum that encourages students of all abilities to participate, challenge themselves and develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity. You will also contribute to the leadership and development of a dedicated team of subject specialists who are committed to providing a supportive yet challenging environment in which students can thrive.
The department has a strong tradition of extra-curricular sport, with a wide range of clubs, fixtures, competitions and leadership opportunities available to students. You will play an important role in coordinating and further developing this provision, including inter-house competitions and opportunities for student sports leadership. There will also be opportunities to contribute to major events in the school calendar, including Sports Day, the Gym and Dance Display and Sports Awards Evening.

Key responsibilities for the role include:
To assist in leading the department in ensuring an excellent learning experience for students, allowing them to fulfil their potential through the provision of excellent teaching and learning.
The successful candidate will have:
- a good Honours Degree, PGCE / QTS E Higher degree
- evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the post
- the ability to identify own professional development needs
- experience of successful teaching of PE across Key Stages 3 & 4
- experience of planning lessons / schemes of work in line with the demands of an examination syllabus
- evidence of raising student attainment in subject
- experience of assessment of students across all key stages
- a willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities
