The content of RE at Ricards Lodge High Schoolreflects the main religious and non-religious beliefsrepresented in Great Britain.
Our provision promotes our students’ spiritual,moral, social and cultural development, inaccordance with the Merton Standing AdvisoryCouncil for Religious Education (SACRE) and in linewith the National Curriculum.
We enable our students to explore and reflect ondifferent faiths, beliefs, practices, traditions, theirinfluence on individuals, communities, societiesand cultures and on fundamental questionsconcerning the meaning and purpose of life.

The RE department provides a progressive journeyfrom KS3 to KS5, moving from foundationalreligious literacy to rigorous academic analysis.
At KS3 students explore a diverse range of worldreligions -including Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism,Christianity and Islam- while developing core skillsin empathy, interpretation, and philosophicalenquiry.
This transitions into the Pearson Edexcel GCSE(9–1) in KS4, where students critically engage withtwo areas of study, 1) Religion and Ethics throughChristianity and 2) Religion, Peace and Conflictthrough Islam. This GCSE level qualification reflectsthe demands of a truly modern and evolvingreligious studies curriculum, allows students toapply a wide range of concepts, to confidentlyinterpret, contextualise and analyse theexpressions of Christianity, Islam and worldnon-religious views they encounter, such asatheism, agnosticism and humanism. Furthermoreit enables students to understand and articulatetheir own and others’ beliefs, values andcommitments, and contributes to theirpreparation for adult life in a pluralistic society andglobal community. Students develop analytical andcritical thinking skills to enable them to present awide range of well-informed and reasonablearguments, aiding in progression to A level study ofPhilosophy in KS5 (AQA A Level Philosophy 7172).In A Level Philosophy students will studyEpistemology, Moral Philosophy, Metaphysics ofGod and Metaphysics of Mind in a purely secularcontext and will develop important skills that theyneed for progression to higher education.
