SEMH Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) job summary
Are you passionate about supporting young people to succeed, no matter the challenges they face? Do you have the resilience, empathy and determination to help students develop confidence, emotional regulation and a positive attitude towards learning?
As an SEMH Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional and mental health needs. Working closely with the SENDCo, teaching staff and pastoral teams, you will provide targeted interventions, deliver one-to-one and small-group support, and help students develop the skills they need to engage successfully in school life. You will build strong, positive relationships with students, promote high standards of behaviour and wellbeing and contribute to a culture where every young person feels valued, supported and able to succeed.

Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
Can build positive and trusting relationships with students who may find school difficult.
Understands the impact of trauma, attachment difficulties and emotional needs on behaviour and learning.
Is able to remain calm, resilient and professional in challenging situations.
Has experience delivering interventions to individuals and small groups.
Can support students' emotional regulation, wellbeing and engagement with learning.
Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The Role
This rewarding role provides an opportunity to make a real difference to young people's lives. You will support students who may experience emotional dysregulation, behavioural challenges or barriers to learning, using trauma-informed and relational approaches to help them succeed. You will deliver targeted interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience, social skills, literacy, numeracy and engagement with learning, whilst working alongside colleagues to create a safe, inclusive and positive environment for all students.
