Join a school that is actively redefining what inclusive practice looks like.
The reality of education today is clear: schools are seeing increasing levels of SEND, particularly in social, emotional and mental health needs.
At Fairstead, we see this as a responsibility—and an opportunity—to continue developing and strengthening what we offer. We are continually reflecting, adapting and strengthening our provision so that our most vulnerable children are not only supported—but truly understood and enabled to succeed.
As part of this, we are expanding our SEMH provision and are seeking a skilled, reflective and committed practitioner to join our large, experienced and highly regarded Inclusion Team.
If you believe that behaviour is communication, that relationships drive change, and that practice can always improve—this is a role where you can make a genuine difference.
About the role
You will work closely with children who require support with their social, emotional and mental health, helping them to:
- Feel safe, regulated and ready to learn
- Build positive relationships
- Engage successfully in school life
This will involve:
- Working 1:1 and in small groups
- Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour for learning
- Delivering targeted, responsive support tailored to individual needs
- Contributing to a consistent, structured and nurturing environment
This is a role that requires patience, resilience and reflection—but also offers real purpose and impact.
Our Inclusion Team
You will be joining a well-established, knowledgeable and genuinely supportive team, which is a real strength of the school.
Our Inclusion Team supports a wide range of needs, including:
- SEMH
- Cognition and learning
- Speech and language
- Autism and other specific needs
- Complex needs provision
- Emotional Literacy Support Assistant
- Safeguarding and attendance officer
- Non-class based SENDCO
We work collaboratively, share expertise and support each other every day.
You will never be working in isolation—we are a team that learns together and improves together.
What makes this role different
- A school that actively evolves its provision
- We don’t rely on fixed models—we reflect, adapt and respond to the needs in front of us.
- A strong, developing SEMH offer
- We are investing in our SEMH provision as part of our wider inclusive practice.
- A culture built on relationships and consistency
- We believe that strong relationships and clear, consistent practice are key to success.
- High-quality professional development
- Ongoing training in SEMH, trauma-informed approaches and evidence-informed practice.
- A reflective and ambitious staff team
- We think deeply about what works—and we are always striving to improve.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience of working with children with SEMH needs or a secure understanding of SEMH
- Sees behaviour as communication and responds with consistency and care
- Builds strong, trusting relationships with children
- Is calm, resilient and reflective in their approach
- Understands the importance of structure, routine and high expectations
- Is committed to developing their own practice and contributing to a team
Our school culture
We are a forward-thinking, community-focused school built on the values of possibility, community and independence.
We believe:
- All children can succeed
- Staff development is key to improving outcomes
- Reflection and feedback drive better practice
We are ambitious for our children—particularly the most vulnerable.
If you want to work in a school where inclusion is taken seriously, you will feel at home here.
We offer:
- A structured induction and strong team support
- A highly skilled and collaborative Inclusion Team
- High-quality CPD and ongoing SEMH training
- Opportunities to grow and develop within your role
- A strong focus on staff wellbeing and mental health
- A school committed to continual improvement
