SEN Learning Support Assistant & Afterschool Club Assistant job summary
Learning Support Assistant – SEN Support & Afterschool Club Assistant
Do you have an interest in teaching and learning? Have you got skills to share with the next generation? Can you be creative and show initiative? Do you understand how primary pupils learn?
Then take a look at what we have to offer you…
We are seeking to recruit a class-based Learning Support Assistant to support SEN and an afterschool club assistant at Buckminster Primary School.
This is a fixed-term position for 1 academic year with the hours 9am – 3pm, for the Learning Support Assistant, Monday – Thursday (20hpw), term time only plus the 5 inset days (39 weeks). This role does include supporting the children during dinner time. Fixed term for 1 academic year, to end August 2026.
Afterschool club assistant, Monday – Thursday, 3:20pm – 5:20pm (8hpw) term time only plus the 5 inset days (38 weeks). Fixed term for 1 academic year, to end August 2026.
We wish to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Learning Support Assistant who will work as an assistant in the classroom under the guidance of the class teacher and support from our team members.
Reporting to the Headteacher, the role of After School Club Coordinator is to provide support in all aspects of running the club, working as part of the team to ensure that children are eating and playing in a safe, friendly environment.
You will be required to provide support for teaching and learning activities as well as 1:1 ad small group support for SEND children. This may include providing general support for whole class learning activities or supporting individuals or small groups of pupils to reinforce new skills or knowledge. Lunchtime and breaktime cover are part of the role.
We are looking for someone who is reflective and skilled and can motivate and encourage children as required. You might want to consider this as a stepping stone into teaching and apply to train within our Academy Trust or you might want to develop your role across our schools in the future within a specific area such as behaviour support, ASD children or pastoral needs.
Experience of working with children with SEN and knowledge of Child Protection and Health and Safety policies are essential. Experience of working within a similar role with children and the ability to understand key policies e.g. Child Protection and Behaviour Management are essential. Along with good interpersonal skills, you will be able to work flexibly within the team, and will be respectful and caring towards the pupils.
It would be desirable that you have an NVQ Level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent or some experience of working with children. Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English are essential, or currently working towards. Along with good interpersonal skills, you will be emphatic with children and young people, and be able to work effectively as part of a whole school staff team.
