We are looking for a compassionate and skilled teacher to join our school and teach a class of pupils following our Learning for Life Curriculum Pathway.

In this role, you will work with children in Key Stage 2 to 3, helping them develop essential communication skills and the independence they need to thrive both in school and in life. Our focus is on delivering a curriculum tailored to the individual needs of our pupils, prioritising their development in key areas of life skills, communication, and self-regulation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster independence in learners through practical teaching and supporting daily life skills (e.g., personal care, meal preparation, decision-making).

  • Use a range of strategies to support pupils' emotional and social development, creating an inclusive and positive classroom environment.

  • Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each child's education and development.

  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies and targets as needed.

  • Engage with parents and carers to support learners' progress and well-being both in school and at home.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

  • Experience working with pupils with Autism and/or Speech and Language needs in a special education setting is desirable, but not essential.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of communication development and life skills education.

  • A patient, empathetic, and creative approach to teaching, with the ability to adapt to the individual needs of each child.

  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and external professionals.

  • A commitment to inclusive education and a passion for empowering students to reach their full potential.

What we can offer you:

High quality CPD

  • A friendly and supportive working environment

  • An employee assistance programme offering counselling, legal advice and financial support

  • A range of comprehensive health & wellbeing services through our staff absence insurance provider

  • A fun, supportive and exciting workplace

  • The opportunity never to be bored and help our students to leave school and achieve everything they aspire to!

Thank you for expressing an interest in working The Mendip School, a school for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Speech, Language and Communication Needs aged 4-19.

The Mendip School is part of the multi-academy trust partnership known as The Partnership Trust. This status allows the school to be more autonomous and to focus on initiatives that raise aspiration and achievement for children and young people.

The Mendip School staff and governors are committed to and passionate about the learning and progress of our pupils. We have high aspirations for our young people and we aim to provide a high quality, relevant and balanced education for all our pupils that focuses on individual, personal and academic achievement. Students are taught in small groups, usually with more than one member of staff in attendance. There is a happy and positive atmosphere in which young people can fulfill their potential and grow in self-confidence with respect for the people and environment around them.

We would welcome applications from people who may currently be working in mainstream schools as full training and support programmes are offered to those who have limited experience of working in a special school.
