What skills and experience we're looking for

Oakfield Primary Academy are looking to recruit a SEN Associate Teacher to support a child with visual impairment. This will be a fixed term contract until 31stAugust 2025.

The salary is £23,337 full time equivalent, actual pro rata salary £17,332.97 based on 32.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 38 weeks per year.

Additional payments will be made depending on the level of need the pupil have.

We are looking for an Associate Teacher who has good SEN experience to promote the access, achievements and well-being of a child who is sight impaired. You will be able to liaise with vision impairment specialists and SENCO to deliver programmes and support relevant to the child. You will be able to prepare and modify resources to be used in pre-Braille activities, whilst guiding to participate in mainstream teaching, wherever possible.

Skills:

  • Use of specialist Braille equipment and specialist ICT equipment for vision impairment
  • Working with, or caring for, children with VI
  • Some involvement with additional learning, physical, communication, social and emotional needs.
  • Good English and Mathematical skills
  • Relevant qualifications NVQ 2 and 3 in childcare and learning (level 2 only may be acceptable if a willingness to work towards NVQ3 can be demonstrated)
  • Flexibility and use of initiative
  • Strong communication skills
  • The ability to work alongside as part of a team
  • Patience and understanding of the ways different children learn
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Oakfield Primary Academy is situated on the borders of Dartford and Bexley, serving Dartford and Wilmington.
