Looking for a leadership role supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities?

Maritime Academy are excited to announce an opening for a SENCo to join the Leadership Team at our state-of-the-art academy. As our SENCo you will play a key role in shaping and delivering our SEND provision, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. You will hold (or will be willing to obtain) the National Award for SEN Coordination and have a strong understanding of SEND legislation and best practice.

About the Role

Working under the direction of the Senior Vice Principal for Inclusion you will:

  • Determine and lead the strategic development of our SEND policy and provision, ensuring that it meets the diverse needs of our students.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team and staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for students with SEND.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the SEND policy, coordinating tailored support for individual students with special educational needs or disabilities.
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, and work closely with staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to SEND support.
  • Ensure that we are fully compliant with the SEND Code of Practice and deliver the highest standards of SEND provision.
  • Act as the Designated Teacher for Children in Care (CiC) and previous Children in Care, ensuring their educational needs are met and their progress is tracked.

We would love to hear from you if you are a qualified teacher with a passion for supporting students with SEND, and possess strong leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and external professionals.
