An exciting opportunity has arisen for a candidate of exceptional ability to join us as SEND Assistant at John Henry Newman Catholic College You'll be working closely with our SENDCo to give students the focused support they need. This role is all about making a direct impact by:
Running intervention sessions: You'll lead small groups and one-on-one sessions, including our special Direct Instruction programmes (DIE for English and DIN for Maths) to help students quickly catch up on reading and numeracy.
Being a classroom hero: You'll support and challenge specific students during lessons, especially those with learning differences (like SpLD, MLD) or ASC (Autism), helping them to smash their academic targets.
Getting things organised: You'll help out with important stuff like doing standardised tests (like NGRT), keeping track of student progress, collecting evidence for potential SEND diagnoses, and making sure our new students transition smoothly from primary school.
Building strong links: You'll chat regularly with parents/carers to keep them in the loop and work with outside agencies during Annual Reviews.

Other Key Responsibilities:
Safeguarding
Carry out Annual Safeguarding training
Support the Manager in promoting safeguarding and welfare, being specifically responsible for the children, young people and vulnerable adults they are responsible for, or comes into contact with
Refer any safeguarding issues to the school’s DSL immediately and record concerns on the relevant IT system.
Ensure compliance to Safeguarding Policies and Procedures within the MAC
Health & Safety
The post holder will be responsible for their own health and safety. All duties and responsibilities must be carried out in line with the specific requirements detailed in the school Health and Safety policies.
Policies & Procedures
The post holder will be accountable for ensuring that they are aware of relevant school policies and that all duties and responsibilities are carried out in line with the appropriate policies and procedures.
