SEND Hub Teacher-in-charge job summary
- The governors and the leadership team are looking to appoint a teacher-in-charge for our newly established SEND Hub, supporting up to eight children with ASD.
In September 2024, Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School opened a SEND Hub for up to eight children with ASD. Due to the promotion of our current teacher within our school, we are now looking for a knowledgeable and skilled teacher-in-charge to lead this provision.
The successful candidate will:
- Have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of SEND, in particular ASD, and a thorough knowledge of appropriate teaching and learning strategies for these pupils.
- Be passionate about ensuring that all children can learn to read.
- Be confident leading training and managing and leading staff.
- Be adaptable and able to work under pressure.
- Be open to support and advice from the local authority, families and other professionals working with these children.
- Have high expectations of what all pupils can achieve, no matter their starting point.
- Be approachable, kind, compassionate and act in accordance with the Catholic ethos and values of the school (we welcome applications from both Catholic and non-Catholic candidates).
Job description and main responsibilities:
- Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEN policy with a focus on the Specialism of the SEND Hub.
- Co-ordinating provision for children/ young people in the SEND Hub.
- Liaising with the relevant Designated Teacher where a Looked After/Child in Care pupil attends the SEND Hub.
- Advising on the graduated approach to providing specialist support for children/ young people attending the SEND Hub.
- Advising on the deployment of the school’s delegated budget and other resources to meet the SEND Hubs children/ young people’s needs effectively.
- Liaising with parent/carers of SEND Hub children/ young people.
- Liaising with other schools, educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and independent or voluntary bodies regarding children/young people attending the SEND Hub.
- Being a key point of contact alongside the SEND Hub Manager for external agencies, especially Peterborough City Council and its specialist support services regarding children/ young people attending the SEND Hub.
- Liaising with potential future providers of education to ensure a child’s/ young person and their parents are informed about options and a smooth transition is planned.
- Undertake any reasonable duties outlined by the Headteacher in line with the role of a teacher.
