SEND Pathway Leader (Complex Learning Needs Pathway) job summary

'Leaders provide effective support for a significant proportion of pupils . They understand the challenges that these pupils face. This enables them to deliver precise pastoral support.' (Ofsted, 2026)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a SEND Pathway Leader at Knowleswood Primary School.

We are seeking an exceptional, passionate and highly skilled SEND Pathway Leader to join our inclusive school community. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop provision for pupils with the most complex learning needs, ensuring that every child receives the support, challenge and opportunities they need to thrive.

Our school has dedicated SEND pathways that support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Complex Learning requirements, and Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN). In the first instance, the successful candidate will lead provision within our Complex Learning Needs pathway, working with a small group of pupils whose needs are identified through Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This aligns with the school's commitment to specialist staffing and expertise within its three SEND pathways.

Working closely with the SENDCo, you will plan, coordinate and deliver high-quality, personalised provision that enables pupils to make meaningful progress towards their EHCP outcomes. You will use a robust assess-plan-do-review approach, ensuring that provision is carefully tailored to individual needs and regularly evaluated for impact.

As a SEND Pathway Leader, you will be expected to:

  • Lead, under the direction of the SENDCo, day-to-day provision within the Complex Learning Needs pathway.
  • Work collaboratively with the SENDCo, teachers, families and external professionals.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, personalised learning experiences based on EHCP outcomes.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to target setting, reviews and assessment processes.
  • Model excellent practice for pupils with SEND and support colleagues to develop their expertise.
  • Guide, coach and support other practitioners within the pathway to ensure consistent, high-quality provision.
  • Promote an inclusive, nurturing and ambitious culture where all pupils can succeed.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Significant experience working with pupils with SEND, including those with complex and high levels of need.
  • A strong understanding of EHCPs and how to translate outcomes into effective provision.
  • Experience of supporting pupils with cognition and learning needs and/or complex SEND profiles.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
  • The ability to inspire, motivate and develop others.
  • A commitment to inclusion and ensuring the best possible outcomes for children with additional needs.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is passionate about SEND and ready to take a leading role in shaping specialist provision for some of our most vulnerable learners. You will join a dedicated team committed to providing ambitious, personalised and inclusive education that enables every child to flourish.

If you believe that every child deserves to feel seen, valued and capable of greatness, you'll fit right in! Join a team that champions creativity, celebrates diversity, and puts relationships at the heart of learning.

In return, we offer access to a wide range of CPD relevant to your role and stage of your career. This includes opportunities to work with Trust expert colleagues, as well as access to coaching, and mentoring.
