SEND Support Base Leader job summary

Following a strategic review of Academy priorities, we are seeking to enhance and develop our SEN Team. We are seeking to recruit a number of key roles to build upon already good foundations and strengthen further, capability and effectiveness of SEN support within the Academy. We are seeking an experienced SEND Support Base Leader, manage the SEND Base within the academy.

This is an important role to assist the academy work closely with the SENCo and help deliver a full range of provision for students, as having complex neurodivergent difficulties. The SEN Team play a crucial role in Complementing the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities / curriculum area under an agreed system of supervision, under the direction of a qualified SENco.

This role will be on a 37 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks)

Salary: Actual £23,759 (Full Time Equivalent: £28,387 per annum (Pay review pending) TBOWA Support Staff Scale 23

As SEND Support Base Leader, you will be welcomed into an exceptional team of professionals to:

  • To support the management and development of a specialist area within the academy providing support to students with special needs and / or supervising students not working to a normal timetable.
  • To aid the development of the SEND Base student’s independence by providing transitional support for students moving into, through, and out of the SEND Base. Planning and delivering excellent intervention for our students within the SEND base, as well as planning preparing learning activities for these students within that aligns with our mastery curriculum.
  • To contribute to the identification and execution of appropriate out of academy learning activities, which consolidate and extend work carried out in class.
  • To provide targets for students based on their ‘Education Health and Care Plan’ or SEND profile, supporting and preparing work schedules for homework support held at the SEND Base
  • To amend and extend student profiles or IEPs in light of the review process.
  • To provide Information, Advice & Guidance (IAG) and support to class teachers and learning support staff, as well as to parents and students.
  • To assist the teacher with the development of in-class support including adaptive teaching, differentiation, behavior and social interaction.
  • To monitor student attendance and work with families of SEND base students, to ensure attendance guidelines are met.
  • To provide pastoral support to students with SEND so that they are fully included in the mainstream provision of the academy.
  • To provide First Aid when required and to ensure all accident/treatment documentation are completed accurately.
  • To monitor and report on students’ progress and attainment, by liaising with the students class teacher’s
  • To assist the academy with the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience in working with neurodivergent students
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills maintaining the ability to remain calm, patient and supportive in challenging situations, to liaise with colleagues; parents, guardians, carers; other professionals and the wider community.
  • Be passionate about supporting young people
  • They must work closely with the SENCo to help deliver a full range of provision for students, that have complex neurodivergent difficulties
  • Have a willingness to work as part of a team and adapt to the needs of students
  • Have a relevant university degree family support, childcare or sports/coaching - all really transferable skills. Or have relevant experience with working with SEN students.
  • Have a calm and professional presence in challenging situations
